Here is the Story Alex Rhodes tells of how this all got started:

Once upon a time in a creaky college apartment there gathered a hodgepodge band of friends that became a hodgepodge band of musicians. Drawn together at first by the clicking of heels and the clapping of hands, they one by one began to pick up instruments, marveling at the mesh of string upon string, voices intertwining and spilling out upon the blackened streets. And so they came back. Again and again they poured themselves together in songs tender and rough, building a cacophony of hearts and a kinship of sound until they could no longer contain it inside of the creaky room. It burst forth, through whitewashed churches and concrete lofts, dim-lit barrooms and the grit of city streets. It took with it their beating fingertips and their bleary-eyed scrawlings and gave the sound to whoever would take it in. The friends wrote together, drank together and played together, always to the warm pulse of the music that had forever bound them to each other and to itself. They continue to this day.
